Believing in yourself – be what you “want” to be

“I know where I’m going and I know the truth, and I don’t have to be what you want me to be. I’m free to be what I want.” – Muhammad Ali

Believing in and having faith in yourself starts in knowing where you are going and knowing your “truth”.

At the end of the day that is all that matters isn’t it?

We are all free to be what we want, an understanding what this “want” is will give us faith and belief in ourselves…regardless of what anyone else says.

Does the need to be recognized stop us from believing in ourself?

“Many of us feel deeply that we want to make a difference –  we want our lives to mean something in the bigger scheme of life.

While this is a noble motive, we might want to explore what lies at its root.

Does the drive to make a difference arise from ego’s need to feel worthy?

If my ego is not convinced that I matter, I may want visible proof that I do, by making some kind of impact on life.

Soul doesn’t need proof that it’s worthy. Soul thrives in being awake and connected.

Perhaps if we let go of the pressure we feel from our ego’s need to be recognized, we will be more open and able to simply live soulfully.

And by doing that, we WILL make a difference!”  –  Alice Mary Hilton

This is a great thought and one that I feel plays a huge part in our lives.  Why do we look to others to recognize our efforts?  Why do we need others approval and recognition in order for us to believe in ourselves and our abilities?

How would it feel if we all let go of the pressure we feel from our need to be recognized, and just believe and have faith in our true self?

What is the power of believing in yourself?

My thoughts for this week are going to be around the topic of believing in and having faith in yourself.  I look forward to your thoughts and ideas around this topic

Why Not Give Yourself The Chance?

This is a great post about investing in yourself. Had to pass it along.

“But we’ll never get the chance to see ourselves obtaining those things if we don’t invest our time and energy, into those subjects to make one fit its own imagination, into the physical form of their own lives!”

Worthy Ideal's avatarworthy ideal

Many of us have the right mind set and the right attitude to achieve greatness, but some of us are limiting our potential, which staggers us to make any progress towards our lives!

When was the last time you’ve picked up a book on your vocation? When was the last time you’ve made progress towards your worthy ideal? When was the last time you’ve invested towards your mind?

If you’ve enjoyed the results you’ve been getting, keep doing what you’re doing. If you’re not enjoying the results you’ve been getting, you’re going to have to do something different!

As Thomas Jefferson put it beautifully, If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done before

So it is critical for us to start investing within ourselves which will gradually change us for the better!

What mental attribute makes you feel most alive?

“Seek out that particular mental attribute which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive, along with which comes the inner voice which says, ‘This is the real me,’ and when you have found that attitude, follow it.” – James Truslow Adams

It feels like we live in a world where we are told so many things by other people.  for example: what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad, what you should feel and what you shouldn’t feel.

I am learning more and more that in order to truly live and not just survive,  each one of has the opportunity to determine what makes us feel the most alive. Not what others think or say…but what we think and how we feel.

What mental attribute makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive?

What happens when we say things in Anger?

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper.  His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence.  Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.  He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.  Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.  He said, ‘You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence.  The fence will never be the same.  When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.  You can put a knife in a man and draw it out.  But It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound will still be there.  A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.”

As I read this, I am reminded of the nails that I have driven and the things I have said in anger.  Realizing that everything thing I say has the potential to leave a hole in someone makes me feel sad, but also gives me a stronger desire to pay attention to how I feel and how I respond in these situations.

In what ways have you found success in controlling how you respond when you are angry?

Breakthrough

leap-of-faith

I always did something I was a little not ready to do.

I think that’s how you grow.

When there’s that moment of “Wow, I’m not really sure I can do this,”

and you push through those moments, that’s when you have a breakthrough.

You gotta want to succeed as bad as you want to breath

I found this YouTube clip this morning and had to share.  This 6 minute clip has a lot of great thoughts and motivation around goals, desire, and passion.  I typed up a few of the thoughts that stuck out to me.

“There will never be a point in your life, where its the right time to do a great thing.  If you are waiting for that perfect perfect moment, that perfect timing…its not going to happen.  You know what you have to do, you have to create the perfect time, and the perfect opportunity and the perfect situation.”

“If you are waiting on your next door neighbor to make it happen for you, it may not happen.  If you are waiting on your mother or your father they may be so ancient in their thinking that they don’t understand this opportunity you have, and if you are waiting on them it may never get done.

You don’t beg average people to be phenomenal, you don’t beg good people to be phenomenal.  you just ARE phenomenal and you will attract phenomenal.”

“I mean that what you did last week don’t count. Today, Today is the only important day.  There are 86,400 seconds in a day and how you use those are critical.  You got 86,400 today and what you do today is going define who you are.”

You gotta want to succeed as bad as you want to breath.”

What is the one thing that you want to succeed at?
