Why do we ask “why”?

This is a great question and one that I have asked a number of times in my life.  As I am facing the next opportunity in my life, the quotes below have assisted me in changing my focus from asking “why” to asking something so much more powerful.  Hope you enjoy

“Why?” is the most useless question in the universe.
The only question with any meaning is “What?”
Asking “Why is this happening?” can only dis-empower you.
Asking “What do I want to make of this?” does exactly the opposite.
– Neale Donald Walsch

“The less I take the difficulties of my life as personal affront,
and the more I use them as an opportunity to learn and grow…
the easier I sleep at night.” – Mary Anne Radmacher

What happens when Motivation meets Action?

For those of you that follow my posts, you know that I am a motivational junkie, and love to fill my life with thoughts and inspiration.

But what if all you have is motivation and never do anything about it?  Here are two of my all time favorite quotes that answer this question.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs

“You can read clever motivational sayings all day, but that won’t replace you getting off your butt and doing the hard work.” – Darren Hardy
What I read from these quotes is:  When motivation meets positive action = MIRACLES HAPPEN

Focus on past success

“Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.” – Jack Canfield

I Think I Can…I Think I Can

I have read this poem a number of times, but it really hit me this morning…so I had to share. What are your thoughts?

If you think you are beaten, you are;

If you think you dare not, you don’t.

If you’d like to win, but think you can’t

It’s almost a cinch you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost,

For out in the world we find

Success being with a fellow’s will;

It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you’re outclassed, you are:

You’ve got to think high to rise.

You’ve got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go

To the stronger or faster man,

But soon or late the man who wins

Is the one who thinks he can.

– Walter D. Wintle

The 90/10 principle…THIS CHANGED MY LIFE

I wanted to share a principle with you today that has totally changed my life.  I haven’t always been a motivated, positive thinking kind of guy. I used to be worried, stressed, and even though I tried to hide it, I was always worried about all the bad things that “could” happen to me.

This 90/10 principle was one of the tools that really helped me change my perspective on life, as well as the attitude I approach life with.  This principle does require daily effort and work, but I have seen my life, and the life of my family change as I have developed my ability to notice and then act on this principle.

How could this principle assist you in your life?  I would love to hear your thoughts!

All Good Things Must Come To An End

One of my friends is ending his blog…and his last post on Controlling our Future is too good not to pass on. Thank you for always providing food for thought Chris. You will definitely be missed.

All good things must come to an end blog photoAs Chaucer once said, “All good things must come to an end.”

And while this final installment of bestpracticelife.wordpress.com won’t rank with the finales for M*A*S*H, Mad Men or Breaking Bad with the masses, I know it will remain a memorable moment in my life.

When I began this blog in August, 2014 I did so with two goals:

  1. For one year, provide insight into the best practices that definitively assist in living a more rewarding and fulfilling life to anyone willing to read.
  2. Make a positive impact on at least one person’s life.

Well, it’s been one year and with 72 followers and countless positive comments, I can safely assume that at least one of my posts has been utilized successfully.

So, with my goals achieved, I realize now is the best time to embark on another journey. Considering how often I’ve mentioned the necessity of having a clear end game for…

Words to live by….great thought for the day

I came across another thought that is up in my mothers office…Maybe I should work from her office more often 🙂

On Particularly rough days when I’m sure I can’t possibly endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days so far is 100% and that’s pretty good.” – anonymous

Enjoy the day…we have a great track record!!!

Lesson from my mother’s office

I saw this quote posted on one of the cabinets in my Mothers office today.

“To get up each morning with the resolve to be happy, is to set our own conditions to the events of each day.  To do this is to condition circumstances, instead of being conditioned by them.”  – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Remember…We may not be able to control our circumstances, but we can ALWAYS control how we respond to them.

Thanks for the reminder today Mom 🙂

Never stop working, stretching, and striving

My wife and I were talking this week and she mentioned something to me that hit me and related so well to the topic of consistency that I have been thinking about this week.

Now I may not get her words down perfectly, but she said something to effect of “you have to keep trying, the moment you give up and stop trying is the moment let the other person win”

Her words are so true.  Life is all about working  and never giving up.  We have to keep trying and keep striving for what we want and for who we want to be.  Even when things get tough…we have to keep trying.  When we make a mistake, or fall back into old ways…we have to keep trying.  It is in these moments that we define who we are.
